For several months, Michael Strahan’s daughter, Isabella Strahan, silently battled brain cancer with her family’s support. Recently, the father and daughter duo opened up about the tumor, how they discovered it, and the treatment Isabella continues to undergo.
Isabella, then 18, was a college student at the University of Southern California when she started getting extreme headaches. In October 2023, her condition worsened as she started vomiting blood. After a thorough checkup with multiple tests, doctors discovered a four-centimeter tumor behind her brain.

The malignant tumor, identified as , is an unusual occurrence for someone her age. Most diagnosed patients of the disease are children ages five to nine.
On October 27, 2023, a day before her 19th birthday, Isabella underwent emergency surgery to remove the mass. Although her recollection of the post-surgery remains a blur, Isabella’s twin sister was supportive throughout, including when she had to relearn how to walk. Isabella’s closest friends also came to visit, even if it only meant sitting with her.

“There were a lot of times she was in pain,” Michael . “She was sleeping a lot.” As a part of her treatment, Isabella had to undergo rounds of radiation therapy, which resulted in hair loss, fatigue, and slight nausea. In February, she will start her chemotherapy.
Although Isabella remained silent in the past months, she decided to use her experience to help others going through a similar situation. She partnered with a cancer center to document her journey in hopes that it would inspire and encourage other kids.
Isabella’s revelation concludes the speculations behind Strahan’s weeks-long on “Good Morning America” in October. At that time, the former NFL star only revealed he needed to attend to personal family matters.
