‘Heartbroken’ Gary Sinise mourning sudden death of son, 33

Tragic news has struck actor Gary Sinise and his family as they mourn the passing of his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, who passed away at the age of 33.

Gary, 68, shared the devastating news of Mac’s death on the Gary Sinise Foundation‘s website and his Instagram page, disclosing that Mac lost his battle to cancer on January 5.

In a poignant statement, Gary revealed that Mac had been battling a rare form of cancer known as Chordoma since August 8, 2018. This heartbreaking diagnosis came shortly after Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

While Moira successfully underwent treatment and entered remission, Mac’s condition deteriorated over time, gradually diminishing his strength and mobility.

Despite facing health challenges, Mac remained resilient and continued to pursue his love for music. Joining the Gary Sinise Foundation as an assistant manager of education and outreach, Mac also showcased his talent as a drummer, performing alongside his father in the Lt. Dan Band.

Mac was deeply passionate about music, graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in songwriting and composition. Despite undergoing five spine surgeries between 2018 and 2020, Mac’s paralysis from the chest down did not impede his creativity. Shortly before his passing, he completed work on an album titled “Resurrection & Revival”.

Gary expressed the profound sorrow of losing a child, stating: “Like any family enduring such a loss, we are devastated and have been coping as best we can. Losing a child is incredibly difficult for parents. My heart goes out to all who have experienced a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We have all felt it in some form. Over the years, I have encountered many families of our fallen heroes. It’s heart-wrenching, and it’s just terribly hard.”

He continued: “Our family’s battle with cancer lasted for 5 ½ years, and it became increasingly challenging over time. While we ache from his absence, we find solace in knowing that Mac is no longer suffering, and we are inspired and moved by his resilience. He fought tirelessly against a cancer that has no cure, but he never gave up.”

Mac’s impact endures within his family, encompassing his parents, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended kin. Gary remains dedicated to preserving Mac’s legacy, unveiling his album, “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” in vinyl format.

Despite grappling with immense grief, Gary’s sentiments reflect the profound love and reverence he harbors for his son. Mac’s memory will persistently motivate and elevate all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
